The Charlotte Birchard Centres of Early Learning is an incorporated, non-profit, charitable organization governed by a Community Board and offers early childhood education and care for children, eighteen months to ten years of age. The organization consists of two purpose built facilities: The Children's Centre, established in 1979 in the Westboro community, connected to Hilson Avenue Public School; and Greenboro Day Care Centre, located in Ottawa South since 1989. The two centres are licensed under the Ontario Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services. The Centres accommodate 200 children and have a staff of 33 employees, 27 of whom are Early Childhood Educators.
Our organization was recognized for its early childhood education and care in the 2003 article, "Never too early to invest in children: Early childhood education and care matters to business!", written by Charles Coffey, Executive Vice President of the RBC Financial Group. He states:
"Among many Canadian centres from coast to coast, the Children's Centre in Ottawa, is a fine example of quality care at work."
Mission and Philosophy
Working together to give all children the same quality, the same chance.
The Charlotte Birchard Centres of Early Learning delivers a program of Early Childhood Education that is safe, nurturing, and promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of families.
Programs are :
At the heart of each individual program is a learning centre enabling the child to acquire knowledge through activity, independent discovery, and exploration of his or her environment. Flexibility and a constant interplay between child and educator draw out the child's natural curiosity and innate motivation to learn.
Each program provides the stimulation and nurturing essential to healthy development. Through creative play children develop intellectually and socially. Interaction with other children and adults in a setting where direction is both gentle and positive, provides children with social skills that prepare them to be contributing members of society throughout their life cycle.
The knowledge, skill and contribution of the staff, maintained through support for continuing professional development, are essential to the Centres' high quality of programme delivery.
Providing support to individual families as they balance their many responsibilities, The Charlotte Birchard Centres of Early Learning shares the responsibility with both families and the community for the care and development of young children.
